Amy’s Choice

***

Amy woke up to white sheets and a monitor. She immediately realized she was in the hospital, but she had no idea how she got there. Amy turned her head and saw a gorgeous hunk of a man sitting on a chair nearby. He had jet black hair and a model-worthy face. Her movement caught his attention and he walked over to her.

“You’re finally awake! How are you feeling, Amy.”

She smiled as she looked into his intense green eyes. “I feel okay, I guess. What happened?”

The guy chuckled softly. “You don’t remember?”

“No.”

“You made the news. Not too many people get hit by a flying flowerpot and nearly die from it.”

Amy creased her brow. “You have to be kidding.” She fingered the large bandage wrapped around her head.

“Nope. It’s true. Here’s the article.” The attractive man handed her a newspaper and pointed to the article.

Amy squinted to read the words. It hurt to concentrate. “Young Woman Nearly Killed by Flying Mums.” She saw a smiling picture of herself and another picture of a couple looking distraught. “What does it say?” she asked, not wanting to concentrate any more. Amy laid her head back on the pillow.

“This couple,” he said, pointing to the paper, “had a fight about the flowers. Apparently, she didn’t consider mums a romantic gift and threw them out her apartment window. You were walking on the sidewalk and got whacked on the head with the large flowerpot. It knocked you out cold. An eyewitness called an ambulance and you were rushed to the hospital. It was dicey for a while. The doctors had to insert a drain to help relieve the fluid pressure on your brain.”

Amy snorted. “Getting hit with a flowerpot is just plain embarrassing.” She blushed and looked away from him, noticing that her room was full of mums. “What the hell…”

The guy laughed good-naturedly. “Yeah, well it made the news and chrysanthemum retailers everywhere wanted to send their condolences and thank you. There has been huge discussion in the media about the worthiness of mums and sales have skyrocketed accordingly.”

“So, who are you anyway? A reporter?”

The man’s face fell. “What, you don’t know me?”

Amy bit her bottom lip. It was obvious he was someone she was supposed to know. “Are you my brother?” she ventured. The defeat in his eyes clearly meant he was not.

“Amy, it’s me, Brad.” He took her hand and kissed it gently.

She blushed. Oh, so you must be my boyfriend, she thought. From out of nowhere, the tears started to fall.

“What’s wrong? Are you feeling okay?”

She whimpered quietly, “I don’t remember you at all. What else don’t I remember?”

“Look, I’ll get the doctor. Don’t worry, Amy. Everything will be alright.” Brad disappeared out into the hallway.

Soon after he left, Amy heard another man’s voice outside her room. “What? She’s awake? Why didn’t anyone tell me?”

In walked a handsome fox with a mop of blond curls. “Amy! You are back among the living!” His smile was contagious. The man walked right up and wrapped his arms around her in a bear hug. Not knowing who he was, she could not return the embrace. “What’s wrong, Miss Amy?”

Miss Amy? What a strange way to address her… and he was acting as if they were close. Was he part of her family? She blurted, “Are you my brother?”

The same look the other guy gave her was reflected on this man’s face. She really needed to stop guessing. He laughed in disbelief. “Amy, what are you saying? You know who I am.”

The other man came in following closely behind the doctor. “She doesn’t know who you are, Troy. So stop pestering her.”

When Amy heard the name Troy, her heartbeat increased. There was something familiar and safe about that name. She looked at the blond, hoping his face would ring a bell. It didn’t.

The doctor told the two men to leave so he could examine her. Amy was desperate to piece together her past, but the doctor asked a string of unrelated questions. After he was finished questioning her, he said, “Miss Gardner, it is not unusual to have temporary memory loss after a serious concussion. You should start recalling things in the next day or two. There is always a possibility that it is more permanent, but there is no reason to think that at this point. Let’s assume the impact has jarred you a bit.” Even though Amy tried to hold back the tears, she started to cry. The doctor looked uncomfortable and stammered, “There’s nothing to be concerned about. Now tell me on a scale of one to ten, how severe is your headache?”

He successfully distracted Amy from her tears as she answered his question. “It only hurts when I lift my head, but when I do it’s a seven.”

“I’m not surprised. We’ll keep you here under observation for the next few days. By then we should have a better idea what’s going on.” He patted her arm stiffly and added, “Everything is going to be fine, Miss Gardner.”

When he left the room, the two men came back in. Amy was struck by how good looking both of them were. Was it possible they were both her boyfriends? “Who are you?” she asked the blond.

He smiled and made the motion of tipping an imaginary hat. “My name is Troy Evans. We met over a year ago because of my cousin Greg. Does the name Greg mean anything to you?”

Amy shook her head. “No, but I like your name.” She smiled shyly and added, “Troy is a good name.”

Both men shared a glance, communicating something silently and then Troy asked, “What did the doctor say? If you don’t mind me asking.”

“He thinks the accident caused temporary memory loss, but assures me I will get them back. I hope I do…” Amy felt the tears coming again.

“Amy, please don’t cry.” Troy came over and wrapped his arms around her again. She closed her eyes. Even though Amy didn’t remember him, Troy’s embrace felt safe and warm just like his name.

“Give her space,” Brad snapped. “She doesn’t even know who you are. You think she wants strangers hanging on her like that?”

Troy slowly pulled away, looking down at her. “Amy, you’ve got to remember me. You and I have had rousing good times together. I’d be happy to tell you about them if he,” Troy nodded at Brad, “would give us a moment alone.”

“I am not leaving Amy alone with a cad like you.”

“Amy never mentioned anyone named Brad and I was with her a week before the accident.”

Amy looked over at Brad again. He gazed at her with such intensity it made her stomach flutter. “Amy and I have a long history together. Longer than yours I can assure you.” Brad took her hand again and squeezed it gently. “Circumstances separated us, but that’s in the past.” He moved in close. “I’m here for you, Amy.”

His words had a calming effect. I’m here for you… Those were powerful words. “I appreciate that,” she said softly, staring into those heavenly green eyes.

“Amy.” She turned towards Troy again. “You and I were talking about taking our relationship to the next level before your accident. I wasn’t brave enough to say it then, but I will now. I love you. I have since the first time we…our first date.”

She looked at him in earnest. “I wish I could remember you. I really do. But I feel like a blank slate.”

“It’s okay.” He took her other hand and kissed it. “Brad is not the only one here for you.”

The nurse came in and shooed both men out. The woman had short black hair and almond-shaped eyes. She’d been nothing but kind and efficient, but this time the nurse seemed especially friendly. “Oh my! You have quite the cuties hanging around your bed. The whole nurse station is aflutter with such handsome eye candy. It’s like having two rutting bulls; you can just sense the tension between them. How did you manage to land two of them?”

“I wish I knew.” Amy’s lip began to tremble.

“Hon, you are going to be fine.” She patted Amy’s hand reassuringly. “I have seen plenty of head traumas before. There is often memory loss, but it comes back. Don’t fret it. In the meantime, you should enjoy the beautiful scenery. We sure are!”

Amy gave her a weak smile. She did consider herself fortunate to have the amorous attention of two men. However, she hated the tension. It made things exceedingly uncomfortable in her room.

“My name is Ruth, by the way.” The nurse held out her hand. Amy took it and Ruth shook it enthusiastically. “If you need anything, I mean anything, just give me a buzz.”

“Ruth, would you mind getting rid of all these mums?” Amy gestured to the multitude of plants. “I feel like they are mocking me, just waiting for their chance to finish the job.”

Her laughter filled the room. “Sure thing. I’ll distribute them to other patients.” Ruth walked out of the room with a perky step and announced, “You can go back in, boys.”

The Boys. Those words triggered a memory, but as quickly as it flitted into her mind, it disappeared. Troy and Brad walked back into the room glowering at each other. She really couldn’t take the friction between the two. “Do you mind if I spend time with each of you alone.”

The men looked at each other wearily. It didn’t look like either was going to leave, but Troy finally spoke up. “If that is what you want, Amy, I’ll come back in couple of hours.” He leaned over and kissed her on the cheek, giving a little wink. “It’ll give me time to spoil you.”

Amy was unsure what he meant, but she thanked him. “I really appreciate it, Troy.”

He tipped his imaginary hat to her, but then glared at Brad. “Notice how I listen and respond to what she needs. I’m not an ass like you.”

Brad kept a stoic face until Troy left the room. Then he pulled his chair over to her bed and sat down. “I’m glad to have this time with you.” Brad took her hand, gazing at her with those hypnotic eyes. “Even though I’m upset that you are hurt, part of me is grateful for this chance. It’s true that we went our separate ways, but you were never far from my mind.” He looked down at their hands intertwined. “Amy, I never stopped loving you. When I heard you were in the hospital, I rushed over. The thought of losing you again was too much for me to handle.”

When he looked up at her again, Amy could see the sincerity in his eyes. It touched her deeply. Something about Brad made her body quiver in anticipation. It wasn’t just that he was classically handsome; she felt a deeper connection to him. “Brad, tell me what broke us up.”

“I honestly can’t say, Amy. One day you were with me, and the next you were gone. You never gave me a reason. All this time I’ve held onto the hope that we would get this second chance.”

Amy asked Brad to share more about their relationship. He told her about the communication class they had together, the long nights discussing world issues, and the meals they enjoyed at his house. It sounded wonderful. Even though she couldn’t remember, Amy could imagine it. “Were we intimate as a couple?”

Brad’s eyes lit up when he answered, “Yes, very much so.”

His reaction made Amy curious. “Maybe you should kiss me. It might trigger a memory.”

Brad bent over the hospital bed to kiss her. He hesitated a quarter of an inch from her lips. She opened her eyes and gazed into his. He smiled before he kissed her. It started out tender, but soon became demanding when his tongue entered her mouth. Oh my, oh my! Amy’s body physically reacted to his kiss. Her groin ached in longing and she felt tingly all over. There was no doubt her body remembered him, even if her mind did not.

They spent their time getting “reacquainted”. Amy saw Ruth come in and then quickly exit. She smiled inside, grateful for the nurse’s sensitivity.

During their make out session, Amy couldn’t help noticing the large package in Brad’s pants. It was frighteningly big. Could she really take all of that into her small frame? Brad observed where she was staring and gave a little grin. “We are perfect together, Amy. I think your body was made for me.”

Your body was made for me… Those words were familiar to her. It made her confident she’d soon remember Brad, too.

Troy came waltzing in a short time later with a huge bouquet of roses. The fragrance instantly filled the room. Amy planted her face in the flowers and took a long whiff. “Oh, they smell amazing! I love the smell of roses. Thank you, Troy!”

His smile was boyishly charming. “I’m glad you like them.”

Ruth came in and interrupted the scene. “I’m sorry, I need to give Amy a quick check. Could you boys leave the room for a bit?”

“Sure thing,” Troy said, giving Amy a peck on the cheek before exiting.

Brad scowled at Troy as he left, then he turned and looked longingly at Amy. “I’ll be back tomorrow bright and early. I can see Troy is trying to win you over with things, but don’t forget who really loves you.” He bent down and gave her a lingering kiss before walking out.

“Miss Gardner, you are one lucky woman. It’s a shame you can’t keep both.”

Amy nodded in agreement. “I wish I could.”

“Both so scrumptious! Can I have the one you dump?”

Amy answered her with an exaggerated pout, “I don’t want to dump either of them.”

“Well, they aren’t going to last long like this. One is going to kill the other.” Ruth strapped the rubber hose around Amy’s left arm. She had the special touch. Amy barely felt the needle slide into her vein as Ruth collected her blood. “Do you want me to make sure no one disturbs you?”

Amy blushed. “Actually, that would be nice.”

“You got it.” Amy heard the snap of the hose as Ruth quickly untied it and put her equipment back on the tray. “See you in a couple of hours.”

Troy came back in smiling. “The nurses say you are doing well, Amy.”

“That’s nice to hear, but really I just want my memory back.”

“Me, too. I want to help you remember in any way I can.” His wicked smirk belied his true intentions.

“Troy, can you tell me more about us?” she asked, totally unprepared for his answer.

“You and I met when we had a threesome with my cousin Greg.”

Amy’s jaw dropped and she stared at Troy in utter shock. It took a few seconds for her to recover. “A threesome?”

He seemed a little more hesitant to answer when he saw the look on her face, but he forged on. “Amy, we are great together. Over a week ago, we had the most amazing sex ever with Greg and Sheila. I really felt a connection with you that night. Hell, I’ve loved you since last summer. You are one of a kind, Amy. I love you to pieces!”

“A foursome?” Amy squeaked out.

“Yeah. Amy, don’t look all weird like that. It was fantastic. The four of us had a great time. Both Greg and Sheila could see the spark between us.”

She couldn’t begin to imagine what it was like. “I don’t know what to say.”

Troy smiled without an ounce of shame. “Although we only started as sex partners, you and I are like two peas in a pod. I know I make you laugh and we have awesome sex together. I love you, Amy, and it’s not just because you are amazing in bed. I love your sense of humor and your adventurous spirit. Hell, I love everything about you!” Troy grabbed her hand and added, “The last night we were together we talked about making this more permanent. I’ve already told you that Brad wasn’t in the picture. I never knew about the guy until your accident. There has to be a reason for that. You and Brad weren’t meant to be, but we are. I’m convinced of it.”

Amy looked at him, feeling confused and alarmed. What kind of girl was she to have a threesome and a foursome with this guy? “Troy…” Aw, but just his name made her feel safe and loved. There had to be some truth behind his words. Why else would I feel this way just hearing his name?

“Miss Amy, all I want is to spend the rest of my life loving you. That’s it.”

She smiled at him sadly. “I wish I could remember us.”

“Here’s the thing. Whether you do or you don’t, my love is yours. I don’t care if we have to start over again. I love you for who you are, not just the memories we have together.”

His words were touching and heartfelt, but she was curious. “Can you kiss me, Troy?”

Troy didn’t just lean over and kiss her. He lowered the bed railing down and lay next to her. She was surprised and it played out on her face. “Do you want me to stand back up?” he asked when he saw her surprise.

“No. I guess not, I just wasn’t expecting you to do that.”

He smiled charmingly. “I’m sorry. I keep forgetting how weird this is for you.”

Amy looked into his dazzling blue eyes. “It’s okay. In some ways I appreciate you treating me like we were before. Hopefully, it’ll trigger something.”

Troy smiled. “Glad to hear it. The fact is I can’t help myself.” He put his finger under Amy’s chin, lifting her lips to receive his kiss. Troy tilted his head slightly as he leaned in. She closed her eyes to concentrate. Her body reacted immediately to the possessive way he kissed her. Her entire body ached for him. When he pulled back, she sighed in contentment.

“Do you remember now?” he asked in a husky whisper.

Amy felt the heat rise to her cheeks. “Well, my body seems to.” Amy didn’t admit to Troy that she felt the same way with Brad.

“That’s a start. Hey, I got you something.” Troy retrieved a heavy gold foil box, handing it to her with a grin.

When she opened it, she chuckled. “Chocolates.”

“Two pounds. A girl like you deserves a big bouquet and a ton of chocolates.”

Amy laughed from deep in her core and it felt good. There was no doubt Troy knew how to delight her. Amy couldn’t help herself; she took a quick peek at his crotch. Just like Brad, his excitement was showing. Troy’s equipment seemed less intimating and it pleased Amy.

Unfortunately, her stare was a little too obvious. “Do you like what you see, Amy?” Troy asked. She burned with a blush, having been caught staring at his crotch. Troy snuggled up to her. “I could love you right now if you want. I already talked to the nurses. No one is coming in to bother us for at least another hour.”

She pushed him away playfully. “Are you serious? You are a cad, just like Brad said.”

Troy winked and answered, “I’m only as bad as you want me to be, Amy.” He moved close to her again, nibbling her earlobe.

Her body responded eagerly to him - the aching in her loins almost unbearable. What was this? Was she a total slut? The thought concerned Amy.

“Troy, I actually think I need to rest. Do you mind?”

“Well…I would prefer to make love to you, but I’ll let you sleep.” He kissed her one last time. “Good-bye for now and pleasant dreams. I hope they are all about me.”

Amy closed her eyes after he left her room. She was confused and upset. Amy had hoped to spark memories by spending time with each man separately. Instead, she left herself hungry for both.

Amy dreamed of candles and chocolates, art and lovemaking. She woke up with the sheets covered in sweat and her body burning with desire. She was desperate for release, but had to settle for painful longing as nurses paraded through her room every hour to check on her vitals. It was a long and desperate night.

Just as he promised, Brad arrived early the next morning. Seeing him come through the door made her all nervous and giddy. I must be a slut, she thought. He brought bagels and cream cheese. They spent the morning discussing world issues. Brad filled her in on current events, shocking Amy with how much she didn’t remember. He reluctantly left when Troy came in the early afternoon.

Troy brought another visitor with him. The man looked almost like his twin, but he had brown hair and a more muscular frame.

“Hey Miss Amy, how are you feeling today?” Troy asked.

“Better I think.”

“I’m glad to hear it. This is my cousin Greg.”

Amy blushed, knowing that the three of them had been together. It was weird. “Um…hi, Greg.”
