His gruff of gray facial hair splattered with blood, his eyes drooped shut with more red liquid dripping at the corner of his mouth. Someone screamed, a female as she backed away from the figure at hand as the person dropped the man's body to the ground and came near her with a silver tinted with crimson rust . Raising it over the woman's head, the mystery person swooped the weapon down to impale the female right in her skull-
And the memory stopped, I blinked away the forming tears in my eyes. I stared away from the detectives in front of to look at my reflection in the two way mirror. My hair a shaggy black, short and uneven in some places as if someone ripped out parts of my hair. My eyes a dark forest green with hints of bruising around the sockets, my skin a cold ivory that sharped with a soiled truth that something did happened yesterday night to me. Even if there was something that happened that day, why would tell anyone?
"You're wasting your time. Like I told you before, I don't remember anything besides the sunrise when I took my daily walk." I Murmured, fidgeting my long pale fingers as I paced back and forth through the room. I don't think anyone could forget that wonderful sunrise. The brightly shining orange that escaped behind the clouds, the pink stripes across the sky, the tinted aqua around the sun's rays. It was remarkable. Breathtaking even.
"Destiny, we just don't understand how you could forget a whole day's worth of an incident. We think you know more than you're letting on." Detective John Muller objected instantly.
"Haven't you ever heard of memory loss and trauma? Maybe that's what is going on in my head?" I noted to him, turning to face his young face. His eyes a perfect molten chocolate brown, skin a small pallor color; his hair a burned crisp black.
"Well, until we find out if that is the case or not, we'd like for you try to remember some more.." Detective Ryanson Lancer responded in a soft manner. A gentle creature like her could make the darkest sinner confess his most evilest deeds. Only I had none to offer her.
"I took my daily walk. How clear enough is that for you? That's the only thing I god damn remember! How many times do I have to spell it out for you?" I snapped suddenly, my eyes glancing at her so sharply that my gaze could probably cripple. Detective John slammed his hands on the table hard, his eyes becoming a a dangerous playground.
"I'm done playing these games with you, Destiny! Your finger prints were on the body of your twin sister. Did you or did you not kill your family?!" John roared as his partner even winced at his sudden out burst. I turned to him, I could feel my heart racing but I knew my face was expressionless; Keeping my ground to hide the fact I was hiding something from them.
"Detective John, now if I was a killer and wanted to keep a secret..would I really confess now if I wanted to get away with it?" I questioned him, feeling a bitter smile lift at the corner of my lips as I sat back down.
"So you did kill them?" Ryanson insisted, I could see her eyes filled with pity. Pity that I didn't fucking need.
"No...I didn't kill my parents...Anastasia did," I confessed finally, adjusting my gaze to a different place in the room. The only light source from the torn light shade of the lamp. "I would never kill anyone of them, Detective and it's insulting to even hear the words from you."
"Anastasia? As in your twin sister?" Ryanson mentioned, her thin blond eyebrows raised in slight surprise.
"The one and only." I muttered with coldness.
"You didn't like her?" John asked, sitting back down with his fingers twitching on the table.
"It wasn't really like that..I loved her, I always tried to get her approval..I let her dress me like a barbie doll so she wouldn't be so embarrassed to see me in school..if anything, Anastasia didn't like me." I revealed in utter annoyance.
"Destiny....what happened between you and your sister...why did she kill your parents?" Ryanson urged, knowing I was finally giving up. I sighed and looked down at my hands.
"I'll tell you what happened that night but I can't tell you why she killed them...because honestly I have no idea why she did." I answered sadly. I closed my eyes and drifted back off to the memory as I told them exactly what they wanted to hear...
I was walking down the steps like usual to greet my smiling parents for breakfast than it was off to school. Only this morning was different. I couldn't smell the fresh smell of strawberries or the bananas; there was not even a sound in the kitchen. I entered the room and was surprised to see not one single life form around. Sitting myself down at the table, I thought maybe it would be better to wait and see if this was just some weird dream or that my parents overslept. I was horribly wrong. Without hesitation, the door that leads downstairs swung open. A scream burned out of my throat as I say standing there was my sister shoving my bleeding father up the stairs. His gruff of gray facial hair splattered with blood, his eyes drooped shut with more red liquid dripping at the corner of his mouth.
"Hello little Destiny..I'm glad your up. I wouldn't want you to miss this." Anastasia taunted as her dark smile became something more twisted. Her hair turned red like it was bleeding instead of her normal strawberry color, her eyes a shimmering blue like she was enjoying what was before her and her skin a tan color from always sucking up the sun twenty four/seven. Suddenly before I could answer she pulled out a hidden blade from behind her back and slide it roughly up through his spine. I watched his eyes widen with anguish and horror as his blood splattered against my face. I felt my eyes sting with new rolling tears.
"R-run.." was his last words to me as he fell to the ground and more red liquid pooled around his lifeless corpse. Her eyes adjusted to me and took a step forward. I jolted back in fear and shock but her hand slithered to me and yank me close by my arm.
"Don't fear me, little sister. This is for you...all of this is for you." She spoke softly in my ear as she pulled me along, I silently followed her. I didn't know what else to do! What could I do? "There is more to see." As she practically dragged me our parents bedroom, I felt relief to see mother still alive. Tied up to a red wood chair, I could see relief in her eyes to see me.
"Mom..." I breathed out, trying to reach out for her only to be shoved to the ground by harsh petite hands of my sister.
"No. She must go too. Don't you see, D? They are evil. Her and dad. They must be punished for their sins." Anastasia screamed at me and raised the knife over the mom's head, my sister swooped the weapon down to impale the our mother right in her skull. Blood pooled down her forehead and I let out another scream as I watched her eyes roll into the back of her head and her jaw going slack from her own mid-scream. Our parents..were gone forever. "Did you like the show? Now it is really only us. Aren't you happy? Isn't this what you wanted?"
"Ana...no...I..oh god.." I curled up into a ball, sobbing my eyes out as I watched Mom's body hunch over like a rag doll. This was it, she was gonna kill me next.
"Yes, Of course you did. I love you and you love me. Our parents would never understand our love." She reached down and tilted my chin leaving a shadow of a kiss on my lips. I tried to move out of her grasp, not understanding that she meant as lovers than sister love. "I love you....free.. forever...just you and I." Her kiss became rougher, I could taste the bitterness of a iron or metal from the blood. My face heating up and I felt my body shake in not only fear but curiosity. Letting myself kiss back was what surprised me the most. It must have surprised her too because her eyes opened wide, watching me with a new kind of hunger. Pushing her fragile body closer to me but I took that moment to act. Kicking my feet forward into her ribs, I saw her be thrown back down the attic stairs and hearing a loud snap. I shut my eyes tight, more tears running down my face mixing with the blood. I lost everything. I heard her whimpers, her small cries for me to take her pain away but I just sat there, listening for hours..I thought her voice would fade sooner but only until I saw the sun in the window from a late sunrise was she dead. Taking a moment to think if this was real or not, I stood up and slowly walked down the blood soaked stairs. It was grievous to see my sister sprawled out on the tile floor, drowned in her own blood of red liquid. It was quite ironic...I spent all my life looking for her to notice me when this whole morning, she looked for my approval. Strolling away from her corpse, I went to the white metal door to the outside world and stepped out into the sunrise. It was the most beautiful sunrise I ever saw in my life.
"And
I know it will probably be my last." I stated, looking
back at the two way mirror sadly. "I'm sorry for what did happen
that day but I am not sorry for killing my sister. She deserved it
like most of the world deserves to die. Including me." I turned
to look at them again. Ryanson nodded as if she understood what I was
feeling. John stood up, unhooked his handcuffs and forced me to
stand.
"Destiny Rockwell, you have a right to remain silent." John instructed.
